Irish designer Jane ni Dhulchaointigh conducted a workshop for the students of European Design Labs 09 from July 20th to the 23rd, 2009.Jane nĂ Dhulchaointigh, who invented the material Formerol, leaded the workshop named “Hands On” through which students can discover new perspectives on the creation of concepts, narratives and objects and of course playing with materials with their own hands. The workshop was based on principal which the tutors of this course explained as: “Nowadays we cannot be satisfied with the generic mass-produced objects. In fact, our senses search for raw, ugly, unfamiliar, repaired, used, dirty, unique, rare and strange objects.”

Monday, October 12th, 2009A safer British pint glass is being developed by the designers aimed at cracking down the problem of glasses being used in violent assaults. The appointed designers, Design Bridge, will work on designing an assortment of safer drinking vessel prototypes, which will be unveiled in December this year. However, the challenge is to not only develop a safer pint glass, but to ensure they are attractive to industry, manufacturers and consumers. Working closely with manufacturers and the drinks trade will help Design Bridge in developing more than one solution, which could be taken up by pub and club owners.
