The Design Council and the Department of Health are all set to launch on 1 October a new project which will address issues regarding the patient dignity and privacy in hospitals. The Design for Patient Dignity scheme will follow the same constitution as the Design Bugs Out competition launched last year, which saw four designers create five new pieces of hospital furniture to combat the spread of infection.

Design Council to Launch Patient Dignity Competition
October 12th, 2009Design Bridge to Create 21st Century Pint Glass
October 12th, 2009A safer British pint glass is being developed by the designers aimed at cracking down the problem of glasses being used in violent assaults. The appointed designers, Design Bridge, will work on designing an assortment of safer drinking vessel prototypes, which will be unveiled in December this year. However, the challenge is to not only develop a safer pint glass, but to ensure they are attractive to industry, manufacturers and consumers. Working closely with manufacturers and the drinks trade will help Design Bridge in developing more than one solution, which could be taken up by pub and club owners.
